Will Jon Gruden Be The Rams Next Head Coach?
The Los Angeles Rams are in shambles and without a full-time head coach with just two weeks left in the season. The Rams are already starting their coaching search while interim coach John Fassel tries to end the season on a winning note after his first loss as a coach against the Seattle Seahawks.
The franchise is looking at ESPN analyst Jon Gruden to fill their head coaching vacancy, multiple sources with knowledge of the Rams’ coaching search have told Yahoo Sports. The sources also said that the list of candidates include Stanford Cardinal head coach David Shaw and New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton.
It’s not known whether Shaw or Payton would leave their respective jobs for the Rams gig, but multiple sources said Gruden would be inclined to listen if the Rams were willing to grant him full personnel authority. The Rams will consider granting personnel authority to at least some of the candidates in their search, a source told Yahoo Sports.
The Rams were also interested in Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and University of Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh but they both shut down any rumors of them leaving. Payton just signed a five-year contract extension with the Saints last offseason, so the Rams will probably focus most of their attention on Gruden or Shaw.
