J.R. Smith and Wife Open up on Premature Birth of Their Daughter
The Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith who is currently sidelined with a thumb injury announced that he and his wife were expecting in October in a video posted on Uninterrupted. This came when he confirmed his contract extension with the team, but this time the news isn’t joyous.
Smith’s wife gave birth prematurely to their daughter, Dakota, who was born five months early and weighs just 1 pound. The couple made the announcement also on Uninterrupted on Monday.
“We know we’re not the only family going through this, who has been through this or who will ever go through it,” Smith’s wife, Jewel Harris, said in the video. “That’s why we decided to share what we’ve been going through with you guys. Please keep us in your prayers, and we’ll do the same for everybody else.”
Smith has not played since December after undergoing surgery on a fractured right thumb and is out a total three months. Nothing comes good with injury, but at least Smith can focus all his time on his wife during these trying times.
