Loing like Sean McDermott will take Rex Ryan's place in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Bills have made the Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott the leader to become their next head coach, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Bills and McDermott could have a deal finalized “in the next day or so,” according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News on Tuesday night.

The 42-year-old coordinator interviewed with the 49ers on Tuesday and the Chargers before that. This was McDermott’s sixth season as defensive coordinator of the Panthers and previously held the same role with the Eagles. The Bills appointed their offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn as interim coach for the 2016 season final game and he was thought to be the favorite to keep the job but McDermott has closed in.
